Song 360, “Sad Song” is a little known song by The Cars, done past their highest moments as a band in the late 1970s and early 1980s. As a Cars fan, I had lost track of them by the time this song came out on the “Move Like This” album in 2011.
In fact, I first heard this song maybe 3-4 years ago. There is a very good The Cars tribute band on the East Coast known as Best Friend’s Girl, and they play this song quite often in their shows. Very well, too. First time I heard it, I had to figure out how I had missed it. I honestly didn’t realize The Cars were still recording in 2011.
It’s not the greatest Cars song simply because the first two albums were so filled with genius. But it deserves a lot more of a listen than it got.
