I will admit I was never the biggest fan of The Clash. I liked them fine, and saw them as one of the acts on a Day on the Green in the Bay Area, but I own one album by them, Give ‘Em Enough Rope.
In 1986 the Clash disbanded and the members went on to other projects. Joe Strummer was involved in the soundtrack of Sid+Nancy, the movie made about Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungeon. I caught the movie at the Tower Theatre, and then I saw it again. Gary Oldman as fantastic in it, and the soundtrack was fantastic.
There are several standout songs on the soundtrack. “DumDum Club” by Joe Strummer is one of them. If you didn’t see Sid+Nancy, you probably haven’t heard this song. Try it now, while it is still available on YouTube.
